Одно из самых известных событий в жизни музыкальной Гаваны - джазовый фестиваль, он является проявлением связи между кубинскими ритмами и джазом. Этот симбиоз получился, когда в конце 19 века, только что освобожденные рабы начали мигрировать в Новый Орлеан. Начинался фестиваль в 1979 году в значительной степени как локальное событие в Каса-де-ла-Культура-де-Плаза.
Со временем, фестиваль вырос в размерах и перестал быть событием местного масштаба и проходит не на одной площадке, а нескольких крупных театрах и ночных клубах Гаваны. Джазовый фестиваль в Гаване посещали такие международные звёзды и джаза в том числе, как Диззи Гиллеспи, Чарли Хэйден, Стив Коулман, Мишель Легран, Иван Линс и Ронни Скотт и это лишь несколько имен в списке участников.

Абелардо Барросо Даргелес (21 сентября 1905 – 27 сентября 1972) - кубинский дирижер и певец, первый мэтр сонеро (солист группы "Сон"), признанный таковым кубинской общественностью.
Родился в Гаване, Куба и был солистом Секстето Хабанеро с 1925 года, записывался с Секстето Болонья в 1926 году и присоединился к Национальному Септето Игнасио Пинейро в 1927 году. С каждой из этих знаменитых групп он сделал серию записей в Нью-Йорке. До конца своей жизни его голос был востребован.
