В данной статье автор рассказывает о проблемах, с которыми он столкнулся на Кубе во время полевой работы. Главная цель заключалась в собирании анекдотов, в первую очередь о персонаже Пепито. Оказалось, что кубинцы проявляют большую осторожность и в своей массе неохотно рассказывают анекдоты, особенно если они имеют политический контекст. Конечно, это не лучшим образом сказывается на репрезентативности собранного материала.

Из статьи М.А. Окуневой "Поездка на Кубу в январе 1962 года", журнал "Советская этнография", № 6 за 1963 год.
"Новое содержание внесено и в такое старинное традиционное празднество, как выбор первой красавицы Кубы. "Звезда карнавала" сегодня должна быть не просто красавицей. От нее требуется хорошая работа, участие в деятельности революционных организаций и в общественных мероприятиях. Выставляют кандидатов на конкурс: организации революционной молодежи, профсоюзы, телевидение, Национальный институт туризма (ИНИТ) и многие другие.
В январе 1962 г. в Гаване происходил "первый социалистический карнавал". Дворец спорта, вмещающий несколько десятков тысяч человек, был переполнен. По находящейся в центре куполообразного здания сцене прошло 29 кандидаток. Жюри состояло из представителей широкой общественности. С каждым кругом число кандидаток все сокращалось, и, наконец, осталось семь девушек. Все они были настолько красивы и имели столько революционных заслуг, что жюри не могло остановиться ни на одной из них. И девушки трижды проходили по сцене. Публика реагировала на марш красавиц очень остро. Когда проходила кандидатка какой-либо организации, то ее товарищи, сидевшие группой, бурно встречали ее возгласами одобрения, музыкой, пением и даже пляской.
Звездой "первого социалистического карнавала" оказалась кандидат Ассоциации повстанческой молодежи (ныне — Союз молодых коммунистов) 14-летняя Берта Йеро Диас — студентка подготовительного отделения Технологического института им. Хосе Марти. Те шесть "принцесс", которые вместе с нею были непобедимы до конца конкурса, были объявлены "дамами этой королевы".
Когда журналисты опросили у представителей телевидения и ИНИТа, почему же не прошли их кандидатки, они с огорчением ответили: "Им не хватило революционных заслуг".

Об авторе: Angel Vazquez Millares (1937) - известный кубинский музыкальный критик. В 1985 году окончил Гаванский университет по специальности «Латиноамериканский язык и литература». С 1956 года он начал заниматься музыкальным программами радио и отвечал за программы, посвященное операм и сарсуэлам.
В 1971 году стал работать на CMBF Radio Musical Nacional, национальной радиостанции, посвященной исключительно концертной музыке, на которую он окончательно перешел в 1984 году. Он пишет, дирижирует и руководит программой «Teatro de la ópera» для широкой аудитории, интересующейся камерной или симфонической музыкой.
Также в 1984 году он открыл в Национальной библиотеке курсы «Хосе Марти» по опере и лирической драме.
Он опубликовал критические работы и эссе в Cuba Internacional, Granma, Bohemia и других изданиях, а также является автором предисловия к кубинскому изданию La pequeña crónica de Ana Magdalena Bach.
От администратора сайта: недавно я обнаружил в семейных архивах брошюру с историческим очерком о Карнавале в Гаване, изданную почти 60 лет назад Муниципалитетом Гаваны и памятную мне с далекого детства. Хотя она издана на газетной, уже пожелтевшей бумаге, с невзрачными (по качеству) фотографиями, озорными рисунками, с идеологизированным текстом, но думаю, что имеет не только семейную, но и историческую ценность.
Вниманию посетителей нашего сайта предлагается это раритетное издание в любительском переводе ("просьба в пианиста не стрелять...") и со сканами избранных страниц
