Здесь до сих пор ездят на советских автомобилях, помнят о детях, которым помогали после чернобыльской аварии, и признательны советским вузам за высококлассных специалистов, получивших там образование. О ностальгии кубинцев по советским временам и том, какие следы в жизни острова оставила дружба между Гаваной и Москвой, — в фильме RTД. Куба когда-то была главным советским форпостом, находящимся в непосредственной близости от США. С тех пор прошло уже несколько десятков лет, Советского Союза давно нет, да и Куба уже не та, но на острове до сих пор ощущается советский дух. По улицам всё ещё ездят автомобили «Лада» и водят их кубинцы, рождённые в 1970-х или 1980-х годах с именами Алексей, Михаил или Екатерина. Можно сказать, что СССР исчез с карт мира, но не из их сердец. До сих пор на Кубе живут около 3,2 тыс. выходцев из СССР и их потомков. Чаще всего это женщины из России, с Украины, из Белоруссии, Казахстана и других советских республик, которые когда-то вышли замуж за молодых кубинцев, приехавших учиться в СССР, а затем уехали с мужьями на Кубу. Эти женщины объединяются в сообщества, сохраняют свою культуру, обмениваются рецептами национальной кухни и прививают детям любовь к своей родине. У каждой из них своя история о том, как она вливалась в местное общество, завоёвывала место в социуме и сражалась за своё счастье. Но в целом эти женщины довольны жизнью и благодарны кубинцам. После того, как Америка разместила ракеты в Турции, в Советском Союзе искали возможность уравновесить положение. Куба стала отличным вариантом, поскольку здесь Москва убивала сразу двух зайцев одним выстрелом: размещала ракеты с ядерными боеголовками в пределах досягаемости границ США и выполняла просьбу Гаваны о защите острова от возможного военного вторжения. Несмотря на строжайшую секретность, 14 октября о растущей под боком угрозе узнали в США, и 22 октября Вашингтон ввел морскую блокаду Острова Свободы. В это время к Кубе подходили советские корабли с последними ракетами и контингентом. В результате в Атлантическом океане начинается противостояние американских и советских судов.
