За это время он также посетил Узбекистан. Побывал в Ташкент, Самарканд и Ферганской долине. Во время приезда Фиделя Кастро в Ташкент тысячи людей пришли встретить его, улицы, где проезжал кортеж с кубинским лидером, даже пришлось оцепить, чтобы желающие увидеть Фиделя просто его не затоптали. Настолько сильное впечатление на людей производил лидер кубинской революции, рассказывают очевидцы. В Ташкенте Фидель Кастро выразил желание посетить местный универмаг. Ему выдали пять рублей, чтобы он что-нибудь себе купил. Фидель выбрал себе ремень для брюк. Его подвели к кассе, за которой уже сидел не кто иной, как министр торговли Узбекистана. Мало того, что тучный чиновник не помещался в кресле кассира, он просто не знал, как ему вращать ручку, чтобы открылась касса. Семь потов сошло у главного торгового начальника, пока он обслуживал Фиделя, который буквально засыпал его вопросами о распорядке дня и особенностях торговли обычного советского универмага. В конце концов министр так и не выдал ему чек за покупку. В Узбекистане Кастро не только посетил уникальные памятники Самарканда и красоты только что открывшегося Ташкентского моря, но и посидел за рулем трактора в одном из колхозов в Ферганской долине. Впечатленные его умениями дехкане подарили команданте традиционный узбекский чапан и тюбетейку.
