Проект кубинского биг-бэнда Akokán родился в Бруклине. Певец Хосе "Пепито" Гомес (из группы Pupy y Los Que Son Son), гитарист Джейкоб Плассе и пианист Майкл Экрот задумали написать альбом в стилистике кубинской мамбы 1940-50х годов. И надо сказать - это удалось на славу!

Afro-Cuban All-Stars — кубинская музыкальная группа, возглавляемая Хуаном де Маркосом Гонсалесом (бывшим тресеро группы «Sierra Maestra»). Музыкальный коллектив объединяет музыкантов 4-х поколений, самому старшему из них 81 год, а самому младшему — 13. Музыка коллектива представляет собой смесь смесь различных стилей кубинской музыки, включая болеро, сон, сон-монтуно, гуахира.
Группа обрела всемирную известность благодаря своему альбому 1997 года A toda Cuba le gusta, который был записан на сессии проекта «Buena Vista Social Club». На тот момент участниками группы были Рубен Гонсалес, Орландо «Качаито» Лопес, Ибраим Феррер, Рауль Планас, Пио Лейва, Мануэль «Пунтильита» Лисеа, Янко Писако и основные музыканты, внёсшие самый большой вклад в запись — Каридад Йерресуэло и Педро Кальво.
Целью коллектива является популяризация и сохранение оригинальной афро-кубинской музыки и фольклора.

Когда-то музыкальные традиции карибского моря свободно сочетались друг с другом, но после революции в 1959 году, музыка Кубы оказалась изолирована. Коллектив Ska Cubano образован в 2001 году и воссоздает былые эклектичные мотивы - сон и мамбо, с элементами других жанров, включая кумбию и калипсо. Компакт-диск под названием “Ay Caramba!” преподносит эту очаровательную смесь для настоящих ценителей кубинской музыки. Исполнители Beny Billy и Natty Bo совершенно свободно смешивают разные музыкальные стили. Billy, в свое время, был уличным гитаристом на Кубе. Bo вырос в Британии, а музыку ‘ска” открыл для себя в 10-летнем возрасте. Чуть позже он работал в составе команды Top Cats – одной из самых популярных лондонских ска-групп. Наряду с ними в состав команды Ska Cubano вошли: ямайский трубач Eddy "Tan Tan" Thornton, соло-саксофонист Megumi Mesaku и кубинский бас-гитарист и музыкальный руководитель Ray Crespo.
В конце июля 2013 года в Хавеа, Испания, проходил летний фестиваль Обога, фестиваль свинг, ска и балканской музыки, цель которого стать ориентиром для новой концепции фестиваля. Летний фестиваль Обога с участием международных художников является пионером в этом слиянии стилей на полуострове. 6.000 человек посетили фестиваль в течение выходных, и, хотя большинство гостей прибыли из Мадрида, было также много людей, приехавших со всех уголков Испании и даже из Франции, Португалия, Италия, Великобритания и Греция. Одним из ярких участников фестиваля была именно группа "Ska Cubano".
